The Pazhangudi Urali Makkal Sangam (PUMS) emerged as a collective response from the community to unite its members and strengthen their voice in social and political spaces. Formed to safeguard rights, preserve cultural heritage, and ensure access to government welfare schemes, PUMS has become a platform for empowerment and advocacy.
Before its formation, community members had limited awareness of their rights and little exposure to leadership or political participation. Through training and collective action, PUMS has transformed this landscape—building confident leaders, fostering unity, and encouraging active civic engagement while maintaining the community’s cultural identity.
